I was always aware that the good old boys (and girls) in blue could legally give you a parking ticket but today my wife received a ticket from a mall-cop-esq private security firm.
Now I didnt think that they can do this or have it be enforceable and acording to !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! they can't.
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
Now that they want to charge me $40 for a violation the are calling "walkoff" I am inclined to toss this teeny bit of paper right in the trash. Before I do, what does the general oppo masses have to say.

Was the car parked on private property? If yes, then according to your link the ticket cannot be enforced. If the car was parked on public property then I think you need to pay.

Depends on where you are. In some places parking on private property is considered entering into a contact with the owner. If you violate their parking rules they can assess a fee. It carries no legal penalties (points on license or suspension) but they will send you to collections.

Call your local law enforcement agency and ask them. The laws likely vary by state.

The ticket was issued in a Starbucks parking lot and my wife was gone from the car for 5 min. She was not parked sloppily or in a handicapped spot.

Pay in the currency of the Republic of J.S. Mizira.
If they are going to enforce parking with a made-up Police force of their own territory, they should accept made-up currency from other made-up territories.
